The Cleaning and Restoration Association Presents Water Damage Restoration Technician Certification Course at SERVPRO of Carlsbad
IICRC’s WRT certification course with Drying Contaminated Buildings
August 24-26, 8:00am-5:00pm
Venue: SERVPRO of Carlsbad - Vista, CA
A unique three-day program that concentrates on drying structures without spreading contaminants. This course incorporates all the information from the IICRC Water Restoration Technician (WRT) exam with an adaptation for contamination. WRT training provides restorers with valuable decision making skills when deciding to proceed with a job that has limited or no mold insurance coverage. Being able to continue on a water-loss without delays limits microbial growth which in turn reduces the cost of remediation, ALE and business interruption. Insurance companies will be more likely to hire restorers that can provide prompt cost-saving services which give your company a marketing advantage.

SERVPRO of Carlsbad "S.B.655" NEW MOLD Law Seminar
SERVPRO of Carlsbad's Mold Law Seminar hosted in Vista, CA.
SERVPRO of Carlsbad's Senate Bill
"S.B. 655" Law Seminar
SERVPRO of Carlsbad recently hosted a law seminar in which the topic of discussion was a recently passed legislative measure in California, "S.B.655". A bill signed by the governor will undercut eviction-delay tactics by unscrupulous tenant attorneys who claim mold as a substandard housing condition.
This new law deems visible mold a "substandard housing condition" and under certain circumstances, property management affiliates can remain liable and subjected to misdemeanor fines if not properly addressed. San Diego has hired an entire team of health inspectors to act on behalf of homeowners and tenants who believe their mold issues have not been properly addressed by their respective property management or HOA company.
This bill is meant to protect both tenant and owner; however, it does seem to get some push back by affiliation groups. We will post on updates about the bill in future blogs.
Our friendly fleet.

Don't let El Niño be a Disaster in Your Life
El Nino, Crystal Pier
The El Niño currently brewing in the Pacific is expected to be the strongest in our recorded history, according to the Climate Prediction Center. We are expected to get the highest levels of rainfall in the shortest amount of time in the last 50 years.
What does this mean for you? It is important to understand just what an El Niño is before we can answer that question. El Niño means The Little Boy, or Christ Child in Spanish. More specifically it is referring to a crying little boy; hence, why the heavy rainfall is associated with his tears. El Niño was originally recognized by fishermen off the coast of South America in the 1600s, with the appearance of unusually warm water in the Pacific Ocean. Climate experts define El Niño as when the sea-surface temperature in a key region of the Central Pacific is increased by at least 0.5 degrees Celsius for several months. These slightly warmer waters add energy and moisture to the atmosphere and in turn can alter storm patterns and severity. Effecting the entire western coast of the western United Sates and western Mexico.
A few degrees doesn’t sound like it would have a great effect, but history begs to differ.
During the 1997-98 El Niño— the current record holder for California— the increase was 2.3 degrees Celsius. These conditions caused California to experience severe land erosion, flooding and agricultural losses from intense rainfall. It was calculated that the damage caused from the 1997-98 El Niño was over $1 billion.
Check back next month to read more about all the preventative measures you can take to make sure that this year’s El Niño does not become a disaster in your life, and remember: SERVPRO of Carlsbad is here 365 days a year, 24 hours a day to make any-sized disaster disappear
