Extracting water from wood floors in mall store. Our team received a call at 4am for a flood cleanup in the local mall.

Water damage can occur with no warning. Protect your home from a flood in every way you can:

  1. Protect wells from taking safety improvement suggestions from a licensed contractor.
  2. Make sure your yard slopes away from your home to direct water away from it.
  3. Have a plumber install an exterior sewer backflow valve.
  4. Anchor fuel tanks.
  5. Have an electrician raise switches, sockets, circuit breakers, and wiring at least 12 inches above expected flood levels.

For winter (areas that experience snow):

  1. Rain can make snow melt quickly.
  2. Remove snow piled against home.
  3. Seal any cracks or gaps in foundation.
  4. Safely remove snow from roofs.
  5. Clear drains and gutters of debris and assure snow melts away from home.

SERVPRO of Carlsbad is here to help your home or business.

AC Units Can Cause Mold!

8/31/2022 (Permalink)

ac unit at house AC units have potential for mold growth.

One of the most current questions that we get from Homeowners and Businesses is, can my AC cause mold or mildew?

In the San Diego area we are accustomed to having the AC unit on one day and the heather on the next. Especially when it is in transitional whether seasons. When purchasing an AC unit you want to buy one that comes straight from the store/factory where there has not been any previous owners. If there is a warranty from the manufacturer, 10 years is the most typical warranty age. Although, there are terms from 5-15 years.

A properly designed, installed, and maintained air conditioning system shouldn't cause mold or mildew. There are always rare exceptions to the rule but these are the most reported reasons for faulty AC units. However, while an oversize or improperly designed unit can cool your home slightly, it also runs the risk of not removing enough moisture out of the rooms air. Too much moisture in your home can increase the potential for mold growth. Mold spores grow on nearly every surface. We live with mold in the same way we live with bacteria. Just like bacteria, there are perfect breeding environments that can and do yield a productive crop of molds that spread throughout the home or office setting. At times, these growths are not noticeable until the smell is strong or the appearance has reached an intolerable amount. Improper installation, lack of maintenance, and water drainage issues can also lead to biological growth. If you are someone who runs their AC unit every single day, it is a good rule of thumb to check your unit once every couple months to make sure that all lines are in safe condition. Also check that there are not leaking water marks near the wall or on the adjacent ground.

SoCal has it's Rainy Days

SERVPRO van driving in rainy weather We have 50+ vehicles on the road inspecting jobs every day.

Southern California is not known for rainy weather but when it does rain for the few days out of the year, it comes in heavy! We are blessed to live in a beautiful place where the sun is always shining but because of that we do not really prepare ourselves and our properties for the potential damage that a rainstorm can bring. Storms show us the faulty roof tiles, and potential bad workmanship of the home in general. Sadly the only way to know these faults exist is for a rain water leak to show you. As long as SERVPRO gets out there as soon as possible to address to issue early on, it will be less damage to the home and get the home back to working condition quickly.

If you have a leak or water damage in your home or business, call us today for an inspection!

Dry Out Water Before Mold Grows!

12/6/2021 (Permalink)

Meter checking wetness on wall Our meters can check if the walls are wet.

Homes in Carlsbad are close to the beach and the humidity is always finding its way into the homes. When water damage happens in homes that are in close proximity to the beach it's important to get our team out there to access the situation as soon as possible because a humid environment can cause mold to grow much quicker. If our team is able to get out sooner then we are able to get to work right away with extracting the water and drying out the walls and flooring before mold has a chance to grow. A wet, warm environment is the perfect situation for mold to grow but we can help prevent that from happening. SERVPRO of Carlsbad specializes in water damage and mold remediation. If mold does grow, you can count on our team to properly remove it so it does not spread to other areas of the home. You can count on our team to do it right the FIRST time.

We'll Fix That!

12/6/2021 (Permalink)

motorcycle shop flooded We can fix any size flood in any location!

The last thing you would think to happen indoors is pouring rain, right? Isn't that what roofs are for, to keep the weather OUTSIDE.

Unfortunately incidents such as broken indoor sprinkler heads and pipes bursting are more common than you would think. Some piping is older, weaker and sometimes some were just done wrong. There is no way to predict when an incident will occur but you can be more prepared or avoid water damage by holding safety meetings on proper operations of equipment so that they do not hit sprinklers above such as forklifts. You can also be prepared by having an emergency flood number on file such as ourselves, SERVPRO of Carlsbad.

As we hope that you never have to experience an emergency but if you do, call the team you can trust. SERVPRO of Carlsbad (760)729-7505.

serving pizza at an elementary school. We sponsored a pizza dinner for the local elementary school.

Our SERVPRO loves to give back to the community when we are able to. For example in this picture our team members are serving pizza, salad and cookies to the kindergartners and their parents for a literacy group. The literacy group focuses on teaching the parents ways that they can help their children learn to read better at home that way they are better prepared for future school requirements. We try our best to participate in local events or donate our time in some way. We are here for our community and our customers. It was such a joy to be apart of this event and seeing the smile on each kids face as they walked into a room full of pizza, cookies and school supplies.
